The Things Parrots Say

HPTFC v VIVA CAPRI FC, 2/9/02
3-3 (Goals - Inyang 3)

The first proper game in over three months is always a bit of an eye-opener.
The biggest positive was seeing some of the work we've been doing over the summer on two-touch pass and move football paying off.It didn't always work, but it's important that we keep trying.
There were times where we had the confidence to pass our way out of danger.
There were little pockets of teamwork all over the place - Charlie and Lee on the left, Gordon, Rob and Lewis on the right, Rich, Cocker and Inyang through the middle.
In the second half we got a bit tired and started booting it into channels.
Lewis was unlucky with some of the offsides, but we all know that there are no linesmen in most of our games, and that refs blow for anything that looks remotely like offside. We are better when we pass it through the team, from defense, through midfield, to attack. We are allowed - and I've looked in the rules to check this - pass sideways, or even backwards, to keep possession.
Saturday's game against SW Central will give us chance to put this into practise.

Here's the managements comments (Marks out of ten will be added once the season starts - these will be decided by the entire team)

Neil - Solid display from our No2 No1. Unlucky with the goals
Lee F - Good performance - linked well with Charlie
Gordon - Good in defense, several vital interceptions
Sirak - great ten minutes. Needs to get fit!
Charlie - Excellent first half, added a new dimension to the attack
Rich - Very solid. Held the midfield together.
Consistent quality corners
Lewis - Ran all day. Just needs to play with the team more
Rob - Not quite match-fit. Some good work down the wing, best cross came from the left
Inyang - Three goals. Superb, especially in the second half. Man of the match
Mike O - Frustrating game for Mike. Fantastic determination but the goal just wouldn't come...
Cocker - Quality passing in midfield
Barry - Not fully fit, some important headers, and nothing wrong with his gob!

Line-up (first half): Neil, Lee F, Gavin, Gordon, Sirak, Charlie, Rich, Lewis, Rob, Mike (c), Inyang
Subs - Cocker came on for Sirak
Second half: Neil, Lee F, Barry (c), Gavin, Rob, Charlie, Rich, Inyang, Cocker, Mike, Lewis
Subs: Gordon came on for Cocker, Sirak came on for Rob.
Sirak went in goal, Neil went to right-back.Lee F and Charlie swapped round

"EAT MY GOAL(S) BY INYANG"
goals from the eyes of the man known as the man.
(after gav nicked my porno chip. £20 to anyone else...)

1. after a series of deadly crosses, the defence had pushed up tight on mike and i, trying to win the headers, and leaving space for charlie, the left sided wizard to drop it into. (a future tactic?) Lee picked it up moved it down the line to charlie who cut inside, i dropped the shoulder span off the poor boy with bewildering speed, beared down on the goal and dispached-bottom left hand corner-1-0 whos laffin now?

2. second half and i'm in the hole. (why i wasnt sure. but i gave the hole my whole, as i do most holes). anyhows cocker rich and i were pinging it bout like it was a hot potato trainin session in sunny southpark. completely egnoring the opposition, but totally aware of mikeo and his holdingitupabilities.
Someone dropped it into him, i sprinted passed, he give it, i got it, ave it! 2-2.

3. Murray man steps up for the corner. soft ball causes loopin cross and headed clearance. bad move mr defender.
ball comes out of the clouds like a...thing that comes out of the clouds, only quicker. i lines it up like my names Theirry Henry ,shape up cock it back...
AVE IT! like the damn busters (cheers baz) skimming at waist height bout 108mph (estimate only) slight deflection makes no difference, a brick would have made no difference.
hattrick no. 2 for the boy. 3-2 to the boys

then they scored. *&^%

SOUTH WEST CENTRAL v HPTFC, 14/09/02
0-2 (Goals - Mike O, James)

(Match report/managers comment to appear soon)

UNITY 1 - HPTFC 0. 28/09/02

Not the best start to the season.
It's time for EVERYONE in the club to stand up and be counted.

The 12 players who were there were outplayed and outfought by a talented Unity team, but we were only 10 minutes (and a hand-ball - SORRY) away from a point.
First game of the season and there was no question of 'what tactics shall we play?' - with 12 players (including 7 defenders) we were never a threat to them.
At half-time they could bring an extra attacker on - becasue they knew we weren't doing them any damage.
They ran the midfield, and their front-line never stopped switching or running.
Unlike us, they kept the ball well, and used simple passes to keep possession.
In short - we weren't good enough.

At least the 12 players who were there have something to work on - I know that I let people run past me, I know that I resorted to the long ball out of defense too often, my throw-ins were rubbish, and of course, I handled the ball that led to the penalty. I won't play that badly again all season. I know the rest of you who played will be thinking what you could have done better. I know that you'll all play better next week.

The players who weren't there have to question their committment. We've known the fixtures for over a month now.
Foolishly, i thought that once the league games started I'd have selection nightmares - that I'd have players battling to play.
Instead, i get a load of excuses - usually on a thursday or friday.
If you know that you can't play LET ME KNOW. Don't wait for me to call you on a Friday and ask.

We have another potential banana-skin this Saturday - OXYGEN at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea - 9.45 meet.
I want to know TODAY who's playing.

Whatever team we put out, we have to play better if we are going to win the double this season.
That's still the target. All we have to do is win all our remaining games and beat Unity 2-0 when we play them at home.
We have a match every week for the next 5/6 weeks.
Win 5 of them and we're right back in it.

TRAINING NEWS:
Barry has sorted out St. Lukes -TUESDAYS.
He will send out an e-mail with more details. I expect I'll see the usual suspects there as well...

Come on lads - WHO F***ING WANTS THIS?
